Chinese government has determined to increase the investment in railway construction in 2019 to the highest level in history of RMB 850 billion. According to the recent annual construction plan of the China Railway Corporation, the new railways mileage in 2019 is expected to reach 6,800km, and is an increase of 45% over the previous year. The construction mileage of high-speed railway will be controlled at 3,200km, which is a 20% decrease that compared with the previous year. However, the high-speed railway crossing the mountainous with many tunnels from the Chongqing to Kunming is about to start constructing, so the total investment is expected to increase substantially. In addition, the newly started line includes the railways connecting Hunan to Jiangxi and Sichuan to Chongqing, as well as the high-speed railway connecting Xiong'an New District to Henan Shangqiu.

The autopilot system was tested on the high-speed railway from Beijing to Shenyang in July to September 2018, with a total test mileage of more than 186,000 km.

On December 25, 2018, the high-speed railway connecting Hangzhou and Huangshan, with the beautiful scenery in eastern China, was put into operation. The railway passes through a number of famous attractions, including the Huangshan Mountain listed as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the West Lake in Hangzhou, and the picturesque Fuchun River and Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang Province.
